It’s not often that those big, earth shattering shifts occur in your daily routine. But as any working artist will tell you, it's why we show up everyday. Hunting and hoping for the glimmers of inspiration that will lead us on to that next big idea. I recently experienced one of those expansive shifts while working on a large encaustic painting in my studio. A shift that has taken my work from 2D to 3D. It seems logical to me now that the influences in my 2D work would eventually make their way into a three-dimensional expression. I call this new work my Specimen Series and each artifact relates to the concept of foraging through my paintings and returning with actual specimens to be studied and examined more closely.
