There's a New Kid in Town... The Hall Spassov Gallery will soon be opening their second location in the heart of Seattle's art district in Pioneer Square. Owners Erik Hall and Amy Spassov will be taking over the former Grover Thurston space at 319 3rd Avenue South. Hall Spassov is now representing me  in both locations and will feature my work in a solo show at their Bellevue gallery this October. They will have their first official Seattle opening on July 3rd for the monthly First Thursday Art Walk and I hope you'll join me in welcoming them to their new home. Making Appearances... My work was featured in the March issue of the Seattle Times Pacific NW Magazine. It was part of this editorial spread of a beautiful northwest home. Specimen Series

It’s not often that those big, earth shattering shifts occur in your daily routine. But as any working artist will tell you, it's why we show up everyday. Hunting and hoping for the glimmers of inspiration that will lead us on to that next big idea.  I recently experienced one of those expansive shifts while working on a large encaustic painting in my studio. A shift that has taken my work from 2D to 3D.  It seems logical to me now that the influences in my 2D work would eventually make their way into a three-dimensional expression.  I call this new work my Specimen Series and each artifact relates to the concept of foraging through my paintings and returning with actual specimens to be studied and examined more closely.    Here are a few images of this new series:

Earth-Scapes

A little inspiration from space... Distance...perspective...and a little digital color enhancement make for some inspiring images from the outer atmosphere.  By selecting certain features and coloring them from a digital palate, the U.S. Geological Survey has created a series of "Earth as Art" perspectives that demonstrate an artistic resonance in satellite land imagery and provide a special avenue of insight about the geography of each scene ..  The Landsat series of Earth Observation satellites has become a vital reference worldwide for understanding scientific issues related to land use and natural resources. Beyond the scientific information they supply, some Landsat images are simply striking to look at, presenting spectacular views of mountains, valleys, and islands as well as forests, grasslands, and agricultural patterns.  http://www.nasa.gov

Celebrate!

“ May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams... and good madness... I hope you read some fine books and  kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful and don't forget to make some art... write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can.  And I hope somewhere in the next year,  you surprise yourself.”   ~   Neil Gaiman Best wishes to you for an amazing 2014!
